YMCA plays a crucial role providing rooms for over 100 single homeless people in our borough. But the current facilities are run down. As part of a plan to develop their ability to fund the necessary redevelopment of the YMCA facilities, they are proposing a major redevelopment of their site – the current YMCA building, and the one they also own next door.
This includes a proposal for a 15 storey tower and a 6 storey block, providing 139 new private residential homes, as well as a 7 storey block for 124 YMCA-provided bedrooms. It would also open up more of the area as a public space.
This is clearly a significant development for the area. This proposal has not been submitted to planning yet. YMCA is initially engaging with the local community to get their views. We would love to know what you think.
