Wimbledon Labour Party’s youth members have come together to form Wimbledon Young Labour, making it the latest in a series of London Young Labour branches to emerge.

This was marked by an informal launch at the pop-up café and music venue The Sound Lounge on Thursday 8th March, and served as an opportunity for young people to discuss key local issues, socialise, and formulate ideas on how to build a successful youth campaign.

The event, ‘Calling all Young People in Wimbledon: Wimbledon Young Labour Launch’, a discussion event and social, was hosted by newly elected Youth Officer Lucy Delaney, and speakers included members of other London Young Labour branches, such as Putney and Battersea Young Labour, and Wimbledon’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jackie Schneider.

Jackie outlined her plans for winning Wimbledon in the next general election and the important part that young people could play. Other speakers included young councillor candidates Ryan Barnett and Ben Butler.

Attendees then moved onto discussion, debating local and national issues facing young people. All cited housing and transport as the greatest barriers to young people in Wimbledon and across the UK. Finally, attendees discussed ideas for building a robust youth campaign. A series of events is now being planned for 2018.
