Merton and London Labour

The majority of the Wimbledon parliamentary constituency lies in the Labour-run London Borough of Merton, which covers two constituencies: Wimbledon, and Mitcham and Morden. Of Merton’s 20 wards, the 11 in Mitcham and Morden are all held by Labour, and this with the two Labour councillors from Wimbledon provides a Labour majority.

Leader of Merton Council: Cllr Ross Garrod

Ross Garrod is the Leader of Merton Council, the borough he has lived in all his life. He attended Benedict Primary School, The Priory Church of England Middle School, and Rutlish High School. As Leader of the Council, Ross has led the Council’s investment into Merton’s towns and green spaces, the programme of support during the cost of living crisis, protection of essential local services, and the ambition for Merton to become London’s Borough of Sport. Coming from the borough has instilled in him a great pride for the community, and a drive to make Merton better for everyone.

Your London Assembly Member: Leonie Cooper

Merton and Wandsworth share a London Assembly Member, which since May 2016 has been Leonie Cooper. Leonie was re-elected in May 2024, increasing her majority from from 14,500 to 27,423.

Your Mayor of London: Sadiq Khan

The Mayor of London sets the budget and is responsible for making London a better place for everyone who visits, lives or works in the city. The Mayor is elected every four years and has been Sadiq Khan since May 2016.
